The Little Things

I recently moved back to the house of my childhood.  This is a great place of healing and nonstop inspiration.  For instance, just as I was leaving the house this morning, I noticed the way the morning sunlight sparkled off of the frost covered rocks in the driveway.  To some this must have just been an act of nature, frost on rocks.  To me, though, there was a story there.  A meticulous tip-toeing of frost fairies throughout the night, gliding daintily along under bright beautiful stars...dancing and singing in circles, spiraling hand in hand...then there was the scene of the trees.  Tall and dark, against the morning sun, with shadows coldly stretching out past the road, into the field beyond.  What are they reaching for?  I'm reminded of a dream.  These are the things of my dreams. Shadow trees, stretching, invading territory beyond their own lands.  Lurking tall and ominous against a distant light too far away for me to comprehend or fully understand...were there fairies nestled in the shadow trees, waiting to ambush me as I rode to work?  Were they perhaps feeling angry that I left without properly thanking them after they had provided me with such sparkle and shine for my morning, or do they not care either way?  Do they know that I even noticed their hard work one cold morning as I stepped into my car?  Are they perhaps at war with each other, these creatures of light and creatures of shadow?  One can only imagine what lies in the thoughts of invisibles...

...and so begins another story in my head...

Split-Ends!

I'm in a drafting stage right now, this is the "moody" writing phase.  I'm adding things, subtracting things, re-wording things and in some cases re-writing entire chapters.  I would love to post some new material, but there is nothing that I'm willing to release.  All I can say is that the Dark Angel Wars series may be divided into "Angel" Books and "Shadow" Books.  It's an idea that I'm playing with.  It is appropriate for the material that I am writing for book 2, but I have to really think this through, because I could be toying with the future...which could be dangerous if I don't think it through. After all, the twelve books could easily turn into 24 books if I do this.   Let me know what you think. I value the input of my readers.

Light Angels

Light angels are rare.  They must be bred of two dark angels, and from that union comes creatures of rare gifts.  Angelik, daughter to Victor and Celeste, is one of these creatures.  She weilds the power of innocence, which when used right can be very useful to the inhabitants of Sark.  She begins the tale in Shea, where she was born.  She must journey to her true home of Sark, discover her gifts, and begin learning what it means to be an angel of light.
It almost seems natural for an angel of innocence to be born in Shea.  After all, Shea is the land of innocence.  Perhaps if she was born in Sark her gifts would have been different, and she would maybe have been the angel of purity, the angel of kindness, or the angel of hope.
She was born in Shea, and that may very well have a great impact on the rest of her life...we'll see what the future books hold!

For now, I want to share some of the many thoughts on her gifts.  First of all, she absorbed winter when she came into Sark.  This will come into play later in the books.  For now though, the idea is that innocence is in a way ignorant.  She knows nothing.  She is like a blank sheet of paper, waiting to be written on.  There is nothing until the story is created by others.  This is what makes her the most vulnerable, and that is why Slatkin tries to protect her from the hunters.  Who knows what would happen if the hunters were to capture her...

There are lights that give comfort and help us see...then there are lights that blind us, and burn us!

Introduction to the land of Shea

The land of Shea is a land of innocence, spirits, and dreams.  It is a world that sits on top of Sark, but can only be entered into by the elves, and those that they choose to bring.  It was made in the before time as a land of light to drive back the forces of the shadow god, Nometheog.  It has thrived in light and innocence for thousands of years.
It is home to more creatures than can be named, all were the dreams of Selfirin, the creator of the land.  Some of the creatures that live there are the Shean Gods, elves, faeries, trolls, sprites, centaurs, gnomes, pegasi, griffins, and sylphs.  These are the most well known and well populated creatures of the land.
The current gods of Shea are Kialo, earth god, Kristiniva, sky goddess, Adrianna, sea goddess, and Amicus, the messenger god.  Always there have been five gods, but the fire goddess has not shown herself in Shea for hundreds of years.  No one knows where she is, and most have forgotten about her.
Any thing, including thoughts, that are considered dark or dangerous to the innocence of the land have been outlawed by the gods.  Instead of keeping the land whole, however, the laws of the gods seem to have caused a split among the races of the land.  The land is seemingly beautiful, and unblemished, but to those who live there, it is far from the land of innocence that it was made to be.

The following is the official summary of the first book:

Angels and Shadows

Across the lands angels struggle to gather. Men strive to find a place in their new land. The gods ponder the changes that have begun. A new darkness grows in secret, spawned by the Shadow driven out before memory.

In the first installment of this series, angels of light, darkness, and retribution must join forces against the mechanations of the gods in order to preserve hope in the coming struggle, and they must face the first tendrils of the adversary that has patiently waited for an opportunity to conquer. It has chosen a new route. From within the souls of men.
